Activities in December

  • Closure of Commonwealth Avenue across two weekends to prepare for reinstatement of the permanent alignment.
  • Stage 2A site investigation works continue along Northbourne Avenue, London Circuit and Commonwealth Avenue.

Overall works – Raising London Circuit

Commonwealth Avenue lane closures

  • Date and time: 6pm, Friday 29 November to 6am, Monday 2 December, weather permitting.
  • Work description: Completion of earthworks, stormwater works and concrete works preparing for traffic switch.
  • Equipment used: Excavator, small roller, trucks, asphalt paving machine and saw cutter.
  • Impacts and detours: Partial lane closures in both directions on Commonwealth Avenue between Vernon Circle and Parkes Way.

Commonwealth Avenue - northbound road closures

  • Date and time: 8pm, Friday 6 December to 6am, Monday 9 December.
  • Location: Commonwealth Avenue, northbound between State Circle and Parkes Way. Only local traffic allowed for access to the National Triangle and fully closed between Parkes Way and Vernon Circle.
  • Work description: Pavement and asphalt works to enable reinstatement of permanent alignment.
  • Equipment used: Excavator, small roller, trucks, asphalt paving machine and saw cutter.
  • Impacts and detours: Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are advised to follow road signs.
  • Contingency: In the event of wet weather or other delays, works will take place from 8pm Friday 13 December to 6am Monday 16 December.

Commonwealth Avenue - southbound road closures

  • Date and time: 8pm, Friday 13 December to 6am, Monday 16 December.
  • Location: Commonwealth Avenue, southbound between London Circuit and Parkes Way.
  • Work description: Pavement and asphalt works to enable reinstatement of permanent alignment.
  • Equipment used: Excavator, small roller, trucks, asphalt paving machine and saw cutter.
  • Impacts and detours: Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are advised to follow road signs.
  • Contingency: In the event of wet weather or other delays, works will take place in early 2025.

Commonwealth Avenue northbound detour in place from 8pm Friday 6 December to 6am, Monday 9 December.

Commonwealth Avenue southbound detour in place from 8pm, Friday 13 December to 6am, Monday 16 December. 

Commonwealth Avenue lane closures and switch to permanent alignment

  • Date and time: From 6pm to 6am, Monday 16 December to Thursday 19 December - night works only.
  • Location: Commonwealth Avenue between London Circuit and Parkes Way. 
  • Work description: Preparation and finalisation of permanent alignment. Following these works traffic will be returned to the permanent alignment on Commonwealth Avenue. 
  • Equipment used: Excavator, small roller, trucks, asphalt paving machine and saw cutter.
  • Impacts and detours: Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are advised to follow road signs. Once works are complete, active travel arrangements will include a shared path on Commonwealth Avenue West, and a cycle only path on Commonwealth Avenue East. 

Ongoing site investigation works for Stage 2A

  • Location: Multiple locations at Northbourne Avenue, London Circuit and Commonwealth Avenue.
  • Date and time: Throughout December from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm Saturday. Some investigation activities will be undertaken between 8pm to 6am Monday to Friday.
  • Work description: Surveying and potholing to identify utilities and soil contamination testing.
  • Equipment used: Light vehicles, hand tools, small compaction tools, survey equipment, and a vacuum truck.
  • Impacts and detours: Traffic control will be in place as required around Northbourne Avenue, London Circuit and Commonwealth Avenue. There will be short periods of noise when cutting concrete.
